The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has introduced a new method for claiming certain financial aid, launching the system this week, but with a catch—it only functions on a Monday. Specifically aimed at individuals receiving the State Pension and having a disability, the online platform now allows for claiming Attendance Allowance. This benefit can reach up to £108 per week for those with disabilities. Although 1.6 million people currently claim this benefit, the option for online application was previously unavailable. Consequently, the DWP has specified that the new online service will only process a “limited number of applications each week,” and these applications are likely restricted to Mondays, according to reports from the MEN.
To utilise the online service, pensioners must be ready to apply early on Mondays to ensure their application is processed online, as the DWP is capping the number of applicants weekly. Notably, individuals acting as appointees or having power of attorney are ineligible for using this service to apply for Attendance Allowance. The online application platform is still under development, as indicated by the message currently displayed to applicants trying to access it. This message communicates: “You cannot apply online today. This is because the service is still being developed, only a limited number of people can apply online each week. More applications will become available every Monday. You can still apply by post.”
Applicants should have all necessary information prepared when using the service as it does not allow for saving incomplete forms and must be completed in a single session. Benefits and Work has highlighted that the beta service does not currently support processing additional evidence to support applications; instead, applicants may expect telephone contact.
