Services along a major railway line in Wales have been halted after a train’s wheels came off the tracks. No services will run along part of the Heart of Wales line, which runs for 121 miles between Swansea and Shrewsbury, for the remainder of Tuesday, August 27. The incident, which happened just outside Llandrindod station, is being investigated and the cancelled services are all those between Shrewsbury and Llanwrtyd, Network Rail said.
Instead, trains will shuttle between Llanwrtyd and Swansea only, and there will also be bus replacement services. A statement from Network Rail said: “At around 7.30 am this morning [Tuesday, August 27], one set of wheels of the 05.22 Shrewsbury to Swansea service came off the tracks at low speed just outside Llandrindod station. Services on the Heart of Wales line are expected to be disrupted for the rest of the day. Trains from the south will shuttle between Swansea and Llanwyrtd, while buses will replace trains between Llanwyrtd and Craven Arms. The cause of the incident is being investigated – thank you for your patience. Please check before you travel.”
On its website, Transport for Wales said it is dealing with the matter in conjunction with Network Rail. Meanwhile, the National Rail website advises that affected passengers can use their ticket on TfW services to Swansea via Cardiff Central at no extra cost. It adds that the rail replacement buses running between Shrewsbury and Llanwrtyd are scheduled to run at specific times throughout the day.
