NHS doctor explains five symptoms you should always see a GP about

An NHS doctor has highlighted five crucial symptoms that individuals should never ignore and always seek advice from a GP. Dr Khan shared these key indicators on TikTok, stressing the importance of prompt medical attention if they manifest.

The first symptom Dr Khan addressed was the sensation of food or drink becoming stuck in the throat, known as dysphagia. This could lead to coughing, choking, or vomiting and may indicate underlying issues such as cancer of the food pipe or upper digestive tract.

He also drew attention to unexplained mouth ulcers that persist for three weeks or more. While mouth ulcers are common, prolonged ones should be investigated due to a potential link to mouth cancer, especially in individuals who smoke or consume alcohol excessively.

Dr Khan highlighted the significance of unexplained heavy or drenching night sweats, advising individuals to seek medical evaluation if unable to rationalize these symptoms. Additionally, he emphasised the importance of addressing new lumps, particularly in the neck, urging caution if the lump is larger than 1cm, feels hard or rubbery, and persists for three weeks.

Lastly, Dr Khan stressed the need to investigate unexplained bone pain, especially in individuals over 50, focusing on areas such as the back, pelvis, or ribs. If the pain cannot be attributed to a specific injury or movement, seeking medical assessment is crucial.

These symptoms serve as essential warning signs that should not be overlooked. Dr Khan’s advice underscores the importance of proactive health monitoring and seeking timely medical intervention to address potential underlying health concerns.
