Oasis fans are being warned about potential scams as they eagerly await the band’s upcoming comeback tour. The legendary group is set to perform for the first time in 15 years, attracting hundreds of thousands of fans looking to secure tickets for the highly anticipated shows. With demand soaring, Oasis has announced additional tour dates to accommodate the overwhelming interest.
In light of the expected frenzy for tickets, Jodie Wilkinson, head of strategic partnerships at takepayments, has cautioned fans against purchasing tickets from unofficial sources, such as resale platforms or social media. Following previous incidents where fraudsters targeted fans of other artists like Taylor Swift, Wilkinson emphasised the risks of falling victim to ticket scams, particularly through fake advertisements or posts on social media platforms.
According to research by Lloyds Bank, the majority of ticket scams, around 90%, occur through fake ads on social media, often involving bank transfers for payment. Wilkinson advised fans to only buy tickets from official vendors or secure resale sites that offer payment protection measures such as Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certification. She also highlighted indicators of potential scams, such as requests for sensitive information, payment via bank transfers, poor quality website images, and unusually low ticket prices.
To avoid becoming a victim of ticket fraud, fans are urged to exercise caution, verify website security measures, and be wary of deals that seem too good to be true. By staying vigilant and ensuring transactions are made through reputable channels, fans can safeguard themselves against potential scams and secure legitimate tickets to witness Oasis’s highly anticipated reunion tour.
