Nearly half of UK women have experienced pain during sex, according to a recent survey by iroha. The survey, conducted by OnePoll, also found that almost half kept the issue to themselves and only a quarter sought a solution to the problem. Experts say there are many reasons people might feel pain during sex, from vaginismus or performance anxiety, to dryness. Health experts say 50% of UK women felt anxious regarding sex due to a lack of self-confidence. 65% of women from the UK were anxious due to inexperience and 15% of UK women’s sexual anxiety stemmed from a past traumatic experience.
Rika Adachi, Global Marketing Manager at iroha, explained that anxiety around sex is a common problem with various manifestations, such as difficulty getting aroused or interested in sex. There are multiple reasons why someone might struggle with sexual anxiety, including stress from modern living or expectations of having constant mind-blowing sex. Adachi emphasised the importance of communication in addressing sexual anxiety. She highlighted that communication can not only make individuals more comfortable but also help in identifying the root of sexual anxiety and working towards a more fulfilling sex life.
Adachi added that the survey revealed a significant number of women who have experienced pain during penetrative sex. However, the more alarming finding was the number of women suffering in silence. By encouraging open conversations, it is hoped that more women will feel comfortable talking to medical professionals or close friends, knowing they are not alone and that options are available to help them overcome their challenges.
The discussion around sexual anxiety and pain during sex sheds light on important issues that many women face. By breaking the silence and seeking support, individuals can address these issues and work towards a healthier and more satisfying sex life. Communication and seeking help are essential steps in overcoming sexual anxiety and pain, empowering individuals to take control of their sexual well-being and overall quality of life.
