Zero calorie drink at right time could see you lose 15.5lbs in weeks

A recent study conducted at Virginia Tech has revealed that consuming a specific zero-calorie drink before meals can aid in weight loss. The study showed that dieters who drank two glasses of water three times a day before meals lost an average of five pounds more than those who didn’t. The research involved 48 adults aged between 55 and 75 over a 12-week period, with the results presented to the American Chemical Society in Boston. The participants were split into two groups, both following a low-calorie diet, but one group consumed water before meals while the other did not. The water-drinking group lost an average of 15.5 pounds, while the non-water group lost 11 pounds in the same timeframe.

The findings build on earlier research indicating that individuals who drink water before meals consume around 90 fewer calories per meal. Professor Brenda Davy, the senior author of the study, highlighted the benefits of water in filling the stomach without adding any calories, suggesting that people should opt for water over sugary, high-calorie drinks to aid weight management. The study, funded by The Institute for Public Health and Water Research, emphasises the importance of incorporating simple strategies like consuming water before meals to facilitate weight loss and overall health.

The study also recommended other dietary tips for weight management and health improvements. Incorporating whole eggs, rather than just egg whites, can be beneficial due to the vitamin D content present in egg yolks, which may aid in reducing belly fat, as suggested by a study from the European Society of Endocrinology. Coffee, with its antioxidants, can offer health benefits when consumed without added sugar and high-fat milk or cream. Experts advise against excessive consumption of sugary juices unless freshly squeezed. By incorporating strategies like drinking water before meals, including whole eggs, and being mindful of coffee and juice consumption, individuals can support their health and weight management goals.
