A pensioner from Pensby, Wirral, Pete Daly, age 71, has found himself in a difficult situation after a delay in receiving his £582.20 EuroMillions prize, which he won in July. This delay has led him to rely on food banks for sustenance as the promised winnings have not yet materialised in his account. Despite being assured of receiving the money within 10 days of his claim, over a month later, Pete is still waiting. The financial strain became evident when he had to pay his car insurance renewal fee, leaving him short of cash and turning to food banks for help.
Expressing his frustration, Pete Daly mentioned, “I won £582.20, and every time I ring them up, I get a different story. I have been paying for the lottery for 10 years, that is £10 a week, £1,040 every year for 30 years, and I finally make £500, and they won’t give me it.” He further explained, “When I found out I had won, I paid my car insurance off with my entire cash for the month because I was thinking this money would come in to keep me afloat for the month. So, I’ve been living in food banks all month because it hasn’t come in.”
In response to the situation, the lottery operator, Allwyn, issued an apology for the delay in paying out the prize. A spokesperson mentioned that they are working on improving the claims process and assured winners that they will receive their prizes. The company explained that due to a revised claims process brought about earlier in the year, a small number of claims have been delayed for various reasons.
