TV star Emily Morus-Jones had a terrifying experience on a Welsh beach when she screamed for help after snapping her leg. The incident occurred on the Menai Strait in north Wales, where the puppeteer was jogging on the foreshore at the Faenol Estate in Bangor. Emily described slipping on rocks, which caused her knee to invert and propelled her into the air, resulting in a broken knee and leg fractures.
Stranded with the tide quickly coming in, Emily was in excruciating pain and unable to move. Fortunately, she managed to call for help and was rescued by teams from Penmon Coastguards, Bangor Coastguard, and the Beaumaris RNLI Lifeboat. The teams found Emily 800 metres south of the A55 Britannia Bridge and prepared her for extraction to safety.
At the hospital, Emily learned the extent of her injuries, which include broken front and back of her knee and multiple leg fractures. As a prominent TV puppeteer, Emily faces surgery and a recovery period that could impact her freelance career. Her work includes designing, building, and performing puppets for various TV and film projects for channels like CBBC, Sky 1, Netflix, ITV, and BBC Wales.
Despite the ordeal, Emily praised the rescue teams for their exceptional care and support while she awaited medical assistance. Having won accolades for her work, including the Bafta Cymru Breakthrough award, Emily’s resilience shines through as she deals with the aftermath of the beach accident. Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of safety while engaging in outdoor activities, especially in challenging terrains like the Welsh coastline.
