The Met Office has issued a 24-hour yellow weather warning for parts of Wales. The forecaster has cautioned that heavy rain may result in travel disruption and flooding in locations across southern England and the south of Wales on Friday, September 6. The warning will be valid from midnight until 11.59 pm on Friday. Anticipated rainfall in some areas is estimated to be between 75-100mm. This warning comes as two weather alerts have been issued for parts of Wales this week. On Monday, September 2, a warning for thunderstorms and heavy rain was issued for the entire Wales region, while on Wednesday, September 4 until Thursday, September 5, another warning for rain was specifically issued for Cardiff and its surrounding areas.
The warning for Friday states: “Outbreaks of heavy rain are expected widely across southern England and southern Wales on Friday. Heavy rain will be persistent for some and may be particularly heavy in a few places. Rainfall totals of 15-30 mm are expected widely, however, the wettest areas are likely to see 40-60 mm throughout Friday with a few areas possibly experiencing as much as 75-100 mm. This weather warning covers east of England, East Midlands, London, and south-east England, the south-west of England, West Midlands, as well as large parts of south Wales.”
The Met Office further alludes to the likelihood of additional heavy rain spells across the southern regions over the weekend. Areas under this weather warning include Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, and the Vale of Glamorgan.
