A developer has submitted plans to Conwy County Borough Council for the construction of over 150 residential units in Penrhyn Bay, situated adjacent to Llandudno in North Wales. Anwyl Homes is behind the proposed project, which includes the development of a 13-acre site near Derwen Lane and close to Ysgol y Creuddyn and Ysgol Glanwydden. The plan encompasses the creation of 54 affordable homes and a contribution of over £400,000 towards the local community, which will involve the establishment of a new school car park and a children’s play area, as reported by North Wales Live.
Phil Dolan, Anwyl’s chief operating officer, emphasised the importance of the project in meeting the area’s housing needs. The mix of homes will cater to local requirements, with a focus on addressing the lack of affordable housing developments in the region over the past decade. The proposal aims to deliver 54 affordable residences alongside 98 private properties, including detached, semi-detached, and mews houses ranging from two to four bedrooms, as well as one-bedroom apartments. Anwyl intends for the affordable homes to seamlessly blend with market-rate properties, forming a cohesive residential environment.
The development also prioritises community amenities, with plans for a new school car park, drop-off area, and a play space featuring at least five pieces of equipment. Beyond housing, Anwyl commits to investing over £400,000 in the local community through section 106 contributions, including funds allocated for education, open spaces, a library, waste services, and allotments. The project is expected to bolster the local economy through spending by construction personnel and future residents.
To address any concerns and provide clarity on the proposed plans, a public meeting is scheduled to take place at the Penrhyn Bay Presbyterian Church on September 11, hosted by Aberconwy Senedd member Janet Finch-Saunders. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with representatives, ask questions, and gain insights into the development’s design aspects. Ms. Knight from HK Planning will present visual representations of the project site, and local councillors will be on hand to address planning-related queries.
