Airport named worst in UK is ‘awful’ and ‘crowded’ – see full list

An airport in the UK has been rated as the worst for the third consecutive year, according to recent research conducted by Which?. The survey of 5,000 travellers evaluated various aspects of their airport experiences, including seating quality, staff interaction, bathroom facilities, and efficiency of processes like check-in, bag drop, passport control, and security.

Manchester Airport Terminal 3 scored poorly with only 37 percent in customer satisfaction. Passengers complained about long queues, inadequate staff, and unsatisfactory facilities, amidst ongoing construction work. Some travellers expressed their frustration, describing the experience as “awful” and “crowded.” Despite Manchester Terminal 3’s poor performance, the airport refuted the findings, highlighting their improvement efforts through the Manchester Airport Transformation Programme.

In contrast, smaller airports were praised for offering shorter wait times and a more relaxed atmosphere. Liverpool John Lennon Airport emerged as the top-rated airport with an impressive 81 percent overall customer satisfaction rate. The research also revealed other poorly-performing UK airports, with Belfast International, London Luton, and London Stansted among the bottom five.

According to Rory Boland, Editor of Which? Travel, larger airports often fall short in providing essential amenities like toilets and seating. Boland recommended passengers to consider airport choice when booking flights, as it significantly impacts the start of their journey. The findings highlighted the importance of efficient and customer-friendly airport services in enhancing the overall travel experience.
