Busy street left ‘like a river’ after burst water main causes chaos

A burst water main on a major commuter route into Birmingham caused chaos, turning a busy street into what witnesses described as looking “like a river.” The incident occurred in the Sparkhill area of the city, leaving residents without water and forcing schools to close. The burst main resulted in thousands of litres of water gushing down Stratford Road, submerging large parts of the street and putting businesses at risk of damage.

The West Midlands Fire Service confirmed the closure of several roads in the area and the deployment of specialized rescue teams to limit property damage.
