This one bedtime habit could be causing hair loss and damage, expert warns

An expert has raised concerns that a common bedtime habit could be contributing to hair loss and damage. Adeel Ul-Haq, a sleep expert from Bunk Beds, advised against going to bed with wet hair, highlighting the potential risks to hair health. He explained that sleeping with wet hair can cause it to become brittle, break easily, and lead to issues like split ends, dullness, and scalp irritation.

Ul-Haq recommended avoiding this habit by using a shower cap if showering late at night or rearranging your evening to allow your hair to dry naturally before bedtime. He also suggested investing in quality silk pillowcases to reduce friction and hair breakage during sleep. In addition to damaging the hair, sleeping with wet hair can create a breeding ground for bacteria, which can transfer to pillows and sheets.

According to Ul-Haq, this bacteria build-up on bedding can lead to various health issues such as ringworm, dandruff, rashes, dermatitis, and respiratory problems. Taking steps to prevent hair damage and bacterial growth caused by sleeping with wet hair is essential for maintaining healthy hair and overall well-being. Be mindful of this bedtime routine to preserve the health and appearance of your hair.
