A nurse in Wales successfully lost an astonishing 14 stone after struggling with her weight to the point where she needed assistance to remove her shoes due to being so overweight. Rosie Whitney, aged 30, faced the challenges of binge eating and reached a peak weight of 27 stone 12 lbs, wearing a size 28 at her heaviest. It was during her time working as a student nurse that she realised a lifestyle change was imperative. The demanding 13-hour shifts took a toll on Rosie, making it challenging for her to endure the workload and resulting in a painful struggle to walk home after her shifts. Rosie even required help from her partner, Lewis, 28, to take off her shoes.
Despite numerous failed attempts with various diets, Rosie eventually decided to undergo gastric bypass surgery in Turkey, costing £4,200. Following the surgery, Rosie managed to shed most of the weight within a year, totalling a remarkable loss of 14 stone 10 pounds. She now weighs a healthy 13 stone 3 pounds, fitting comfortably into a size 12. As a newly qualified nurse, Rosie feels a sense of pride and is now able to cope with the extended shifts on her feet.
Recalling her journey, Rosie expressed her struggles with overeating and how she would snack on unhealthy foods such as takeaways, crisps, and sausage rolls throughout the day, rather than adhering to regular meal times. Concerns about her health and the physical demands of her job during her nursing placement prompted Rosie to consider surgery after attempting to lose weight independently without success.
Post-surgery, Rosie faced challenges with body dysmorphia despite receiving praise for her remarkable transformation. She plans to address the loose skin left after her weight loss through future surgical procedures. Currently, Rosie is content with her weight and embraces a balanced and healthy diet. She feels confident in her body and is proud of the progress she has made, enabling her to tackle her nursing responsibilities with ease.
Rosie’s story serves as an inspiration, showcasing her dedication and determination to improve her physical and mental well-being. Through her remarkable weight loss journey, Rosie highlights the importance of prioritising health and self-care, ultimately achieving a happier and more confident outlook on life.
