A dad-to-be in Wales has admitted to making £7,000 from selling cocaine, a court has heard. Corrie Morgan, 27, confessed to selling Class A drugs after police found incriminating messages on his phone. He explained that he engaged in drug dealing to fund his own habit. The evidence against Morgan came to light when a phone was seized from a car outside a property in Rhymney, Caerphilly, on March 26. The phone contained messages from Morgan advertising cocaine between March 12 and 22.
During a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court, it was revealed that Morgan was arrested on July 24 after being identified. A search of his home uncovered £1,250 in a North Face coat. Further investigations into his bank account showed £14,159 had been deposited between December 2023 and May 2024. Prosecutor Charles Archer highlighted that Morgan failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the large sums of money.
Morgan, residing in Ysguborwen, Tredegar, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs. His defence barrister, Jeffrey Jones, mentioned that Morgan and his partner were expecting a child, but it was acknowledged that he would miss the birth due to his incarceration. Jones added that Morgan’s drug use was a driving factor behind his criminal activities. Despite this, Morgan received a three-year and four-month prison sentence, with him expected to serve half the term in custody before being released on licence.
The court’s decision means that Morgan will not be present for the arrival of his child later this year. The judge, Recorder Barry Clarke, handed down the ruling at Cardiff Crown Court. This case serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of illegal drug activities, especially in the context of impending life-changing events such as the birth of a child.
