A mum’s quest to enhance her body image by undergoing a Brazilian butt lift resulted in what she describes as ‘bullet wound’ holes in her buttocks. Melissa Crawford sought the procedure to address self-consciousness about her ‘flat’ behind exacerbated by post-childbirth changes to her body. Instead of going abroad, the 30-year-old opted for a ‘liquid BBL’ treatment closer to home, found through a salon she discovered on Facebook.
Melissa paid £1,700 for a non-surgical butt lift and eyebrow filler procedure at the salon. The liquid BBL involved injecting one litre of filler into her buttocks with a large needle. Melissa claims she experienced excruciating pain during the procedure and developed abscesses within 24 hours. Despite reaching out to the aesthetician for help, she alleges she was ignored after being advised to use an electric toothbrush to reduce swelling.
Struggling with pain and infection, Melissa consulted another aesthetician who urged her to seek immediate medical attention. Subsequently, she had the filler drained and abscesses removed, leaving her with prominent scars and dents resembling bullet wounds on her buttocks. This ordeal also included eyebrow filler complications, which led Melissa to describe her appearance as ‘Quasimodo.’
Reflecting on her harrowing experience, Melissa expressed regret and disillusionment with cosmetic procedures, warning others about potential risks and long-term consequences. She emphasised the physical and emotional toll of the treatment, noting the impact on her confidence and daily life.
The beautician involved stated she takes all professional concerns seriously but cited confidentiality in refraining from specific comments on individual cases. She asserted that her treatments adhere to high safety and professionalism standards, despite Melissa’s distressing experience.
