Two men have been charged with the murder of a festival worker who was allegedly assaulted in a Swansea street. Andrew Main, from Falkirk in Scotland, was working in Wales when he was allegedly attacked in July this year. The 33-year-old suffered serious brain injuries and was treated at the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff before being transferred to a hospital in Edinburgh, where he passed away almost a month later.
Initially charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm, the two men were accused in relation to the alleged incident that took place on Princess Way in Swansea city centre in the early hours of July 17. Swansea Crown Court heard how the Procurator Fiscal in Scotland declined the transfer of Mr. Main’s post-mortem examination to Wales, insisting it be conducted in Scotland. Following the examination by two Crown pathologists, the prosecution intends to stay the existing charges and file a new indictment.
At their arraignment, Joseph Nigel Dix, 26, from Frome, Somerset, and Macauley Luke Ruddock, 27, from Camerton, Somerset, both pleaded not guilty to the murder of Mr. Main and the lesser charge of manslaughter. A trial date has been set for January 6 next year.
Mr. Main’s family is still awaiting the release of his body, as the court works to resolve outstanding matters quickly. His sister, Sharon Leebody, described him as a fit and passionate person who deeply cherished his family. She emphasised Andrew’s loyalty as a brother, father, and uncle, highlighting the positive impact of fatherhood on him and the adoration he received from friends.
As the legal proceedings continue, the hope remains that Mr. Main’s family will soon have closure. The court’s commitment to resolving matters promptly reflects a dedication to justice for the victim and his loved ones.
