This dog can talk to dolphins who follow her owners’ boat

A dog in Wales has taken the internet by storm with her unusual ability to call dolphins to her owners’ boat and seemingly communicate with them. Pearl, a Black Patterdale terrier, has been attracting dolphins since she was a puppy, using a high-pitched whine to charm the marine mammals to Mark and Louise Parry’s vessel off the Welsh coast.

Mark and Louise initially found Pearl’s unique squeak embarrassing but have since embraced her talent. Launching their boat from Pwllheli, Mark noted that Pearl seems to be aware of the dolphins in the water before calling out to them. Her distinctive cry has caught the attention of online viewers, who have been amazed by her interaction with the dolphins.

Research in Australia has previously shown that dolphins respond to high-pitched sounds, such as music from instruments like the flute and piccolo. Pearl’s dolphin-friendly whine can last for extended periods, prompting the couple to develop a routine to prevent the dolphins from following them endlessly.

As Mark plans for retirement, he aims to secure a mooring in Pwllheli for a larger vessel to offer dolphin-watching excursions with Pearl. The dog’s unique talent has captivated many, with some viewers comparing her to diving guides in the Red Sea who use whistles to attract dolphins.

Mark’s YouTube channel, VW Adventure, showcases Pearl’s adventures, highlighting her extraordinary ability to communicate with dolphins. As the Black Pearl from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies was famed for being hard to catch, it seems North Wales has its own ‘Black Pearl’ with a remarkable skill that sets her apart.

With Pearl’s charm and incredible talent, Mark and Louise are considering the possibility of having her join leisure boats to continue calling dolphins and enchanting all who witness her extraordinary gift.
