A 7p Pill Could Lower Your Cholesterol Levels
High cholesterol is a major concern in the UK, affecting six in 10 adults. When left untreated, high cholesterol can lead to serious health issues such as heart disease and strokes. To maintain healthy cholesterol levels, it’s crucial to reduce intake of saturated fats in the diet. However, research suggests that taking a simple 7p supplement daily could help lower cholesterol levels.
A study published in the Journal of Chiropractic Medicine revealed that daily intake of vitamin C supplements could reduce “bad” cholesterol levels. The study, which analysed 13 trials from 1970 to 2007, found that supplementing with at least 500mg of vitamin C daily for a minimum of four weeks led to a significant decrease in low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. Another research, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, indicated that taking vitamin C supplements daily could lower the risk of heart disease.
Vitamin C supplements can be purchased for 7p per tablet and are available from stores like Holland and Barrett. Alternatively, you can increase your vitamin C intake through foods such as citrus fruits, peppers, strawberries, blackcurrants, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, and potatoes. Alongside supplementing, the NHS recommends a diet rich in oily fish, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and fruits and vegetables to manage cholesterol levels. If you have concerns about your cholesterol, it’s advisable to consult your doctor for guidance.
