The Admiral Swansea Bay 10k event returned for its 43rd year, drawing in more than 4,100 participants. The event, which took place on a Sunday morning, kicked off with thousands of runners and supporters gathering from 8.30am onwards. The main race route spanned from the recreation ground to Mumbles and back along the Promenade.
In the men’s race, Dewi Griffiths clinched the victory with a time of 28 minutes and 22 seconds, while Calli Thackery set a new course record in the women’s race, finishing in 31 minutes and 58 seconds. Owain Terrell claimed first place in the 10k wheelchair race with a time of 31 minutes and 5 seconds. Additionally, there were 1k and 3k races for juniors, along with a mascot race where the winner received £100 for charity.
The event village provided a lively atmosphere with food, drinks, and entertainment for both participants and spectators. Councillor Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea council’s cabinet member for investment, regeneration, and tourism, expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the event, underscoring the significance of the Swansea Bay 10k as a key fixture in the city’s annual events calendar.
Acknowledging the event’s longstanding history spanning over four decades, Councillor Francis-Davies commended the family-friendly environment and the returning participants who have made the event a tradition. Plans for next year’s race on September 14 were confirmed, with entries set to open soon.
Temporary road closures were implemented to safeguard the safety of the runners and spectators, contributing to the smooth running of the event. Admiral, the event sponsor for the 18th consecutive year, was joined by sponsors such as Princes Gate Water, The Secret Bar & Kitchen, and Days Motor Group in supporting the successful execution of the day’s activities.
