A man from Neath, Andrew Wager, was sentenced to seven years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl. The Swansea Crown Court heard that Wager took advantage of the teen at a party when she fell ill and pretended to be asleep during most of the attack. The judge remarked on the severe impact such actions can have on the victim for a lifetime.
The prosecution detailed that the rape occurred at a party in Neath Port Talbot in 2022, where the girl felt unwell, went to lay down alone, and was then sexually assaulted by Wager. Despite having no previous convictions, Wager had been convicted at trial of sexual assault and rape before the recent sentencing. His defence highlighted his character and the potential impact of the imprisonment on his family.
Judge Geraint Walters condemned Wager for his actions, stating that he had taken dreadful advantage of the young girl who was in a vulnerable state at the party. The judge underscored the lasting consequences of such behaviour on the victim. Wager was sentenced to seven years in prison and given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order, in addition to being registered as a sexual offender for life.
