Facing trial alongside 50 other men accused of the ‘aggravated rape’ of his wife Gisele Pellicot, also 71, Pelicot’s revelations shocked the court. Describing past traumas he endured as a child, Pelicot mentioned being raped at nine and witnessing another sex attack at 14. However, he claimed that meeting his wife as a teenager brought happiness into his life, stating that they had children and grandchildren whom he never harmed.
The courtroom witnessed emotional scenes as Gisele Pelicot reacted to her ex-husband’s words by expressing disbelief at his actions. Dominique Pelicot, remorseful, pleaded for forgiveness, admitting guilt for subjecting his family to such horrific acts. Pelicot, who has been in custody since 2020, faces up to 20 years in jail, along with the other defendants in the trial.
Psychologists described Pelicot as a ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ character, leading a double life — appearing normal during the day and facilitating strangers to rape his wife at night. His daughter testified that he was one of the worst sexual predators and detailed incidents where he secretly filmed family members nude.
Pelicot’s crimes involved forming a sex ring that advertised on an online forum, resulting in 92 rapes committed by 72 men, of which 51 have been identified. The trial is expected to last until December 21, with fourteen defendants admitting to rape while others deny any involvement.
