A drug dealer in Cardiff was found in possession of almost £10,000 worth of heroin and crack cocaine, landing him with an additional cost of £6,000. Daniel Tumelty, 21, was observed exchanging items with a man in Llanrumney, Cardiff, during a suspected drug deal. Police officers searched him and found 42 small wraps of crack cocaine and 75 wraps of heroin, valued between £7,620 and £9,990. They also discovered three mobile phones containing drug-related messages.
Further investigations resulted in the seizure of cash, weighing scales, and designer clothes at Tumelty’s partner’s house. A wrap of crack cocaine was found in a customer’s flat where Tumelty was seen exchanging items. Despite his claims of innocence, Tumelty later pleaded guilty to drug-related charges and was sentenced to 45 months in prison. In a Proceeds of Crime Act hearing, it was revealed that Tumelty benefited almost £30,000 from his criminal activities but only had assets of £6,620.
The judge ordered Tumelty to repay the sum of £6,620 within three months or face an additional prison sentence of four months. This case highlights the consequences faced by individuals involved in drug dealing and the measures taken to reclaim ill-gotten gains.
