Live M4 updates as crash causes 30 minute queues and Prince of Wales Bridge also blocked

Drivers faced significant delays on the M4 near Newport today due to multiple incidents causing congestion. A crash led to the closure of one lane on the westbound carriageway between junction 25 for the B4596 Caerleon Road and junction 25A at the A4042. Traffic was backed up to junction 23A for Magor services with reports of queues lasting around 35 minutes, according to traffic monitoring system Inrix.

Additionally, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge experienced issues, with the eastbound lane partially blocked and slow traffic. An obstruction on the road from junction 23 at the M48 to junction 22 for the M49 contributed to the congestion, exacerbated by existing roadworks in the area.

As a result, drivers were advised to expect delays and plan their journeys accordingly. The situation caused frustration for many commuters, with the traffic disruptions impacting travel times and creating longer-than-usual queues on the motorway and bridge.

Efforts were underway to resolve the incidents and alleviate the traffic build-up, but motorists were urged to remain patient and stay updated on the latest developments. Continuous updates were provided to keep drivers informed of the evolving situation on the M4 near Newport and the Prince of Wales Bridge.
