An organised crime gang has been found involved in a conspiracy to supply up to £72m worth of heroin and cocaine into south Wales. Kerry Evans, 35, from Merthyr Tydfil, was identified as the mastermind behind the operation, which saw the drugs being distributed on an almost industrial scale with substantial sums of money involved. Prosecutors revealed that the enterprise included various individuals in different roles, operating in different geographic locations, coming together to engage in massive drug dealing with vast amounts of money changing hands.
The extensive distribution network stretched between the north of England and Merthyr Tydfil, with gang members occupying various positions within the supply chain. A thorough investigation by regional organised crime unit Tarian led to the seizure of almost 10kg of cocaine and 5kg of heroin, with a potential street value exceeding £1.5m. Kerry Evans, who boasted of involvement in the sale of 600kg of drugs within a year, was sentenced to 14 years and five months in prison after pleading guilty to five counts of conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
Evans was described as a “regional manager” and a key figure in the gang’s hierarchy, acting as a central point of contact for many of the illicit transactions. Other members of the gang, such as Lloyd Jones, Ricky Griffiths, and Christopher Wray, were involved in handling cash, acting as couriers, and providing logistical support for the operation.
