Pride of Britain has launched a £100,000 fund to support community heroes as part of celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards. Local heroes have the opportunity to receive grants of up to £2,500 to enhance their communities. The fund aims to spread the Pride of Britain spirit by supporting charitable causes and community organisations across the UK.
Grants of £2,500, £1,000, and £500 are available through the Pride of Britain Fund’s giveaway. Individuals or groups dedicating their time to various community initiatives can be nominated for the funding. This includes those providing companionship and meals for older people, beautifying high streets with flowers, running sports clubs for children, or supporting youth groups for a brighter future.
More than 100 groups have already received grants from the Pride of Britain Fund, including the Manchester youth charity N-Gage, founded by Christie Spurling. A £30,000 grant helped the charity purchase a mobile youth club, equipped with games consoles and technology to engage with young people in their communities.
Interested individuals or groups can apply for grants of £500, £1,000, or £2,500 by completing an online form or scanning a provided QR code. The nominations will be shortlisted, with the final decision resting with local communities nationwide. This democratic process allows communities to vote on who should receive the funding in their area.
The funding initiative is part of the forthcoming 25th anniversary broadcast of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards on ITV1. The fund’s objective is to empower and support those making a difference in their communities, showcasing the extraordinary work of unsung heroes across the UK.
