Ryanair has recently made changes to its policy regarding cabin bags, leading to backlash from passengers who feel they are being unfairly charged. The budget airline has updated its pricing list for passengers wanting to bring a larger cabin bag, resulting in increased costs for customers. Currently, travellers must pay an extra fee for ‘priority’ boarding to bring a 10kg suitcase on board. Alternatively, passengers are only allowed a small personal bag, included in the ticket price, measuring up to 40x20x25cm.
The cost to upgrade to priority, which includes a small personal bag and a 10kg suitcase measuring up to 55x40x20cm, used to range from £6 to £36 if added during the flight booking process. However, this fee has now been raised to between £20 and £60 for upgrades made later or at the airport. Non-priority customers who have not added a bag to their booking can still purchase a 10kg check-in bag at the airport for £35.99, and those bringing their 10kg bag to the boarding gate may face additional fees of £46 to £60.
Passengers have expressed frustration on social media over Ryanair’s numerous extra charges, such as fees for airport check-in, printing boarding passes, and even ensuring seating with family and friends. One passenger commented, “So Ryanair have put the price of priority boarding up…rip off…everything extra, so you book your flight then it’s add on after add on after add on. Before you know it you’re another £100 out of pocket.” Another added, “Just avoid Ryanair if you can, they make EasyJet seem luxurious and customer friendly. They charge extra for *every* little thing, I’ll never use them again if there’s an alternative.”
