An NHS worker and mother, Natalie Shotter, tragically lost her life after a reported incident of rape on a night out in Southall, West London. The 37-year-old was found lifeless on a park bench in Southall Park on July 16, 2021. The court heard that she was allegedly attacked by a homeless man named Mohamed Iidow, 35, who is currently on trial facing charges of rape and manslaughter.
Prosecutor Alison Morgan KC stated that Natalie was a vulnerable individual who was taken advantage of by the defendant. CCTV footage suggested that Natalie was unconscious during the assault and unable to give consent. The court was informed that the repeated act of rape led to her death. The exact cause of her death following the incident has not been definitively established.
Footage showed Natalie appearing unconscious during the alleged assault, in stark contrast to an earlier scene where she was seen dancing joyously outside a store. Standing a little over 5 feet tall and weighing only 43kg, Natalie’s vulnerability was emphasized during the trial. Iidow denies all charges, and the trial at the Old Bailey has been adjourned until a later date.
