A man has been arrested in connection with the death of a teenage boy in an incident involving a truck in west Wales. Tomas Ll?r Davies, known as Ll?r, who was 16, died on the afternoon of March 12 this year after a tipper truck reportedly slipped down a slope into the eastern river Cleddau in the Efailwen area of Clynderwen.
An inquest into the death, opened by assistant coroner for Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, Paul Bennett, in March, was told police were called to the scene after receiving “an emergency phone call reporting an incident involving a dumper truck at Gilfach Quarry in Efailwen”.
An air ambulance was sent to the area but Ll?r was pronounced dead at the scene at 2.39pm that afternoon. The incident was reported to the Health and Safety Executive and Dyfed-Powys Police launched “a full investigation with ongoing enquiries”.
The force has now confirmed that a man in his 60s has been arrested as part of its investigation, with a spokeswoman saying: “A man in his 60s has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter. He has been released on bail pending further police enquiries.”
Following the death, Ll?r’s family described him as a “kind, funny and charming” boy. The family said: “On March 12 our world was turned upside down when learning of the death of our kind, funny and charming Ll?r. Your caring and warm personality will stay with us for the rest of our days. Your ability to light up any room you walked into is something we will cherish and remember forever.
“Our lives will never be the same without you Ll?r/ You will forever be in our hearts. Cysga’n dawel beautiful boy. The family wish to thank friends, family and the wider community for all their messages of support. It has given us comfort during this dark time knowing that Ll?r has touched so many lives.”
