**Businesswoman Shares Horrifying Experiences of Ex’s Harassment**
Businesswoman Catalina Payne recently spoke out about the terrifying harassment she endured at the hands of her ex-partner. The 31-year-old revealed how she was bombarded with threatening messages and subjected to controlling behaviour as she tried to end their relationship.
The messages from her ex-partner, Jos Shields, included violent threats such as “I’ll kill you”, “I’ll bring it all down”, and “I’m going to shoot you”. Shields would turn up at her workplace, call her incessantly, and even entered her home without permission, causing damage.
**Seeking Help from Authorities**
The situation escalated to a point where Catalina felt trapped, finding it easier to appease Shields rather than confront him. She eventually sought help from the police after he began harassing her staff, leading to his arrest.
Shields, 34, was later sentenced to 21 months in prison and issued with a 10-year restraining order. Catalina and her children were placed in a women’s refuge for their safety. Despite Shields being behind bars, Catalina fears the harassment may continue upon his release.
**A Troubling Relationship Unfolds**
Catalina and Shields initially met through mutual friends, but their relationship soon turned sour. She described his behaviour as controlling and manipulative, leading her to try to distance herself.
The situation worsened when Catalina decided to leave Shields in February 2024, prompting a barrage of abusive calls and messages. Even after blocking him, his stalking and threats persisted, causing immense distress to Catalina and those around her.
**Impact on Mental Health and Support Systems**
The relentless harassment took a toll on Catalina’s mental health, resulting in diagnoses of PTSD, anxiety, and depression. She highlighted the lack of psychological support for victims of controlling relationships and emphasised the need for specialised assistance to break the cycle of abuse.
As Catalina bravely shared her story, she called for greater awareness and support for women facing similar challenges. She underscored the importance of recognising signs of co-dependency and trauma bonds to empower victims to seek help and break free from harmful relationships.
**Support for Victims of Abuse**
Catalina’s harrowing experience sheds light on the pervasive issue of domestic abuse and the long-lasting impact it can have on individuals and families. Her courage in speaking out serves as a reminder of the importance of providing adequate support and resources to those affected by controlling and abusive relationships.
