The Met Office has extended its yellow weather warning for rain in Wales, indicating that the country is bracing for 27 hours of heavy rain. Initially set to last from 6pm until 12pm on Wednesday, the warning has now been pushed back to 9pm. The warning states that areas of heavy rain are expected to develop and push north across the warning area. Many places are likely to see around 10-20 mm of rain, with isolated thunderstorms also possible, particularly in the south.
The forecaster updated the warning to highlight that the warning area has been extended slightly further east, covering a total of 20 areas in Wales, including Cardiff, Swansea, and Newport. This means that heavy rain will have affected the majority of Wales for 27 hours, with some locations potentially seeing 50-80 mm of rain fall in 6 hours. Met Office Chief Meteorologist, Matthew Lehnert, mentioned that warm and humid air arriving from the south will bring heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms.
The extended warning covers regions such as Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Carmarthenshire, and Conwy.
