M4 road closures to cause misery for drivers over the next week

Several parts of the M4 in Wales will either be partially or fully closed this week due to roadworks. The works include maintenance and while they will mostly take place overnight, some drivers may still be affected. Areas affected this week include the Prince of Wales Bridge and Pyle. People are being advised to allow for extra travel time as a result of these works.

Here are all the M4 closures affecting Wales for the week starting Monday, October 21, according to Traffic Wales. We have also included some of the more significant closures due to affect the M4 in England.

In Wales:
– M4 – Prince of Wales Bridge: Both directions – J22 M49 to J23 M48. One lane closed due to resurfacing work and contraflow on the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge in both directions from J22 M49 to J23 M48. There will be some overnight closures. Wales-bound traffic is using one lane on the Wales-bound carriageway and one lane on the England-bound carriageway. England-bound has two lanes running. The work is ongoing until 30th May 2025.
– M4 – Westbound – J37 Pyle Offslip closed for clearance work between October 20 and October 25 from 8pm to 6am.
– M4 – Westbound – J47 Penllergaer Road closure due to carriageway maintenance between 8pm and 6am. Drivers will be diverted via on and off slip roads.

In England:
– M4 – Westbound – J12 Slip road and lane closures between 9pm and 6am from October 21 to 24 for structures work.
– M4 – Westbound – J7 Slip road closed for maintenance work on both directions between 9pm and 6am on October 21 and 22.
– M4 – Westbound – J18 to 19 Closed for carriageway repairs between 9pm and 6am from October 21 to 24. Diversion via A46,A420, A4174, M32 to J 19.
– M4 – Eastbound – J16 Entry slip road closure for structural maintenance works between 9pm and 6am. Diversion via A3102, B4006, B4289, A4313, A4259, A419 to J 15.
– M4 – Both directions – J10 Slip road and lane closures between 9pm and 6am between October 23 to 24.
– M4 – Both directions – J4/4A M4 Westbound J4 to M4 southbound J4A Link road and lane closures for traffic signal upgrading. Diversion via National Highways roads. M4 clockwise J4 Roundabout closure for traffic signal upgrading. Diversion via local authorities.

Drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly to avoid delays and congestion during these closures on the M4 motorway.
