Drivers on the M4 in Wales are experiencing long queues and delays as they embark on their bank holiday getaways. Traffic congestion of up to 40 minutes has been reported on sections of the motorway, particularly around Newport, as holidaymakers take advantage of the extended weekend. Apart from the M4, delays are also building up on other routes such as the A40 as holiday traffic heads westward.
In addition to road congestion, flights have been disrupted due to Storm Lilian sweeping across parts of the UK. The Prince of Wales Bridge faced severe delays of up to an hour during the Friday morning rush hour as high winds forced the closure of the M48 Severn Crossing. While Storm Lilian has now moved northeast, traffic remains heavy on the M4 near Newport.
The RAC estimates a high volume of leisure trips by car over the weekend, with 3.2 million trips expected on Friday alone, marking the highest number since data recording began in 2015 for the summer bank holiday. As holidaymakers navigate through the congested roads and airports, they are urged to stay informed and patient to ensure their journeys go as smoothly as possible.
