A tragic incident near the Welsh border has resulted in the death of a man and left a seven-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries. The emergency services responded to a crash on the A483 near Oswestry around 8.50 am on Friday morning (August 23). The collision involved a grey Audi S3 saloon heading towards Welshpool and a blue Volvo lorry travelling in the opposite direction towards Mile End.
Sadly, the driver of the car, a 59-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The young girl, a passenger in the vehicle, was airlifted to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool with life-threatening injuries and is currently in a stable condition. PC Ben Ward of West Mercia Police expressed condolences to the family affected by this devastating incident and urged witnesses to come forward with any information by contacting the police.
The road where the crash occurred remains closed, and authorities anticipate it will stay shut for several hours as investigations continue into the cause of the tragedy. The situation serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers present on the roads and the need for vigilance by all motorists.
