A community has paid tribute to a farmer who has died on a farm in North Wales. On Thursday, September 5, North Wales Police confirmed they were investigating the “unexplained” death of a man on a farm in Llanycil near Bala in Gwynedd. The police force confirmed that the man died on the farm on Wednesday, September 4. Emergency services, including the police, were called to the farm on Wednesday evening but the man died at the scene.
BBC Cymru Fyw has now named the man as Islwyn Owen, a 67-year-old farmer who lived in Llanycil. According to a councillor for the Llanuwchllyn ward, Cllr Alan Jones Evans, the news of his death has “shocked” the community. Speaking to the BBC, the councillor described Mr Owen as a “conscientious” and “busy” farmer, who everybody knew, and that agriculture “was his life”. He added: “I would like to extend my condolences to his widow, Margaret.”
“Islwyn was very well-known in the world of agriculture and further afield. He was a familiar face in every agricultural show and the whole community in this area, the news has come as a massive loss to the local community.”
North Wales Live has reported that the police are working with the Health and Safety Executive to determine the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. North Wales Police has asked people to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
