A man in Wales has been caught on camera breaking into homes and carrying out bizarre tasks. Damian Wojnilowicz, aged 36, was arrested after breaking into a woman’s house in Monmouthshire. The homeowner discovered that Wojnilowicz had used the shower in the man’s summerhouse to wash his clothes, eaten and drunk food from the house, and left the hot tub dirty. Cardiff Crown Court was told that Wojnilowicz appeared drunk during the break-in.
Just a month earlier, Wojnilowicz had broken into another woman’s home where he took out her washing and even carried out household chores like emptying the recycling bin and putting away her shopping. He left a note for the woman saying, “Don’t worry, be happy, eat up and scratch.”
At the first victim’s home in Monmouthshire, the woman returned from work to find her washing hung up, bird feeders refilled, and plant pots rearranged. Inside the house, kitchen utensils had been binned, a meal had been prepared using her food, and the floor had been cleaned. The victim reported feeling heightened anxiety following the incident, prompting her to consider moving home out of fear for her safety.
Wojnilowicz, who has a history of previous convictions for offences including assault and public order offences, was sentenced to 22 months in prison. His defence lawyer mentioned that he was homeless at the time of the offences and apologized to the victims for the harm he had caused. The judge described Wojnilowicz’s actions as a significant intrusion into the victims’ homes.
The victims expressed feelings of shock and fear upon discovering the break-ins, with one stating they felt sick and horrified. The court heard that Wojnilowicz’s DNA was found at the first property he burgled. The incidents left both victims in a state of unease and prompted one to seek temporary accommodation out of fear.
The unusual and intrusive behaviour exhibited by Wojnilowicz has raised concerns about home security and safety among residents. The sentencing serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and security measures to protect against such unexpected intrusions.
