A special night-time event is set to illuminate one of Wales’ top family attractions this season in anticipation of its 25th anniversary celebrations. The National Botanic Garden of Wales, located in Carmarthenshire, has planned an immersive night-time experience leading up to its milestone anniversary. The event, named ‘Dragon’s Breath’, will take place over four nights at the end of October and will feature a collaboration between the garden’s staff and outdoor events specialists Walk the Plank.
Visitors can expect a fusion of fire, music, poetry, and performance, designed to enchant guests of all ages. Highlights of the event include a mesmerising fire trail showcasing the garden under the cover of darkness, intricate handcrafted fire sculptures, and live performances by artists and poets along the illuminated pathways.
The central theme of ‘Dragon’s Breath’ revolves around a dragon seeking refuge in the garden’s lake, with elements of Welsh folklore and poetry interwoven throughout the experience. The event features works by renowned figures such as Dylan Thomas and Wales’ former Children’s Laureate Connor Allen, adding depth and connection to the Welsh cultural heritage.
Dr. Lucy Sutherland, the director of the National Botanic Garden of Wales, expressed excitement for the grand scale of the ‘Dragon’s Breath’ event, emphasising its environmental message and the integration of arts to raise awareness about nature conservation. The event aims to kick off a cultural journey for the garden as it leads up to its 25th anniversary in 2025.
‘Dragon’s Breath’ is set to captivate visitors from Thursday, October 24, to Sunday, October 27, between 6pm and 10pm. Tickets and further details for the event can be found on the garden’s website. With a focus on creative storytelling and engaging performances, the National Botanic Garden of Wales promises an enchanting evening of fire, fairy tales, and Welsh heritage for attendees.
