Airlines with the worst plane food ranked as one serves ‘world’s best meals’ – Wales Online

The best airline in the world for plane food has been named, and it may not be the name you had expected. Plane food often receives a bad reputation, typically associated with dry, microwaved meals that are barely recognisable. However, some carriers stand out by serving gourmet offerings for those in the know.

While no sky-high dining experience can truly match restaurant quality, the reality of inflight meals is affected by various factors. As planes ascend and cabin humidity decreases, our taste and smell senses diminish. The reduced cabin pressure further numbs our taste buds, making flavours less pronounced. Strict food safety regulations also impact inflight meals, as all dishes must be pre-cooked, swiftly cooled, stored cold, and then only reheated in-flight, potentially affecting the quality of even the finest dishes.

Despite these challenges, discerning travellers with a love for fine dining can find hope, as certain airlines have gained acclaim for their superior culinary offerings. According to research by MoneySuperMarket’s travel insurance experts, which included over 27,000 passenger meal reviews across more than 100 airlines, Kuwait Airways came out on top with an impressive average rating of 8.6 out of 10 for its high-calibre meals. Their “Royal Class” service features decadent choices such as lobster, prawns, and various beef dishes, even offering multiple courses for economy passengers.

Rounding off the top five airlines with exceptional inflight fare are Oman Air, Middle East Airlines MEA, Air Algerie, and airBALTIC. Notably, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways have been rated the highest among frequent flyers from the UK, both scoring 6.7. Budget airlines like Ryanair and EasyJet, which do not provide meals unless passengers pay extra, were not included in the list. However, passengers can bring snacks from the airport for consumption during these flights, provided they dispose of any leftovers before reaching their destination to avoid fines for undeclared food items.

The top 20 airlines with the best meals include Kuwait Airways, Oman Air, Middle East Airlines MEA, Air Algerie, airBaltic, and more.
