Aldi, the supermarket giant, has recently announced plans for a significant expansion by revealing a list of 34 new store locations it intends to establish in the coming years. The company shared this exciting news in its annual trading update, where it disclosed its largest ever package of annual investment to accelerate expansion throughout various towns and cities in the UK. With a reported surge in sales and profits, Aldi is set to invest a staggering £800 million to ramp up its presence across the nation.
The ambitious expansion plan includes opening 23 new locations by the end of this year, with key sites in Muswell Hill, London, and Mere Green, Birmingham, being part of the record £800 million investment scheme for 2024. Currently operating over 1,000 stores, Aldi aims to reach 1,500 stores nationwide, hence actively seeking new locations for further growth. By the end of 2025, Aldi plans to establish stores in various regions including Wales, Scotland, and England.
Some of the locations where Aldi is set to open new stores by the end of 2025 include Leytonstone and Muswell Hill in London, Pwllheli in Wales, Castle Douglas in Scotland, and more. Additionally, Aldi has highlighted priority locations where it is actively searching for suitable sites, such as Woodford and Surbiton in London, Redhill in Surrey, Chatham in Kent, and others across different regions.
Aldi has specified that it is looking for freehold town-centre, edge-of-centre, and retail park sites capable of accommodating a 20,000 square foot store with around 100 parking spaces. The ideal locations should have good visibility and access near main roads to attract customers. Richard Thornton, Aldi UK’s Communications Director, expressed the company’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordable groceries to more families across the UK, emphasising the ongoing expansion efforts.
