Aldi confirms Christmas store closure dates for 2024 after John Lewis and Waitrose

The budget supermarket Aldi has confirmed its store closure dates for Christmas 2024, following in the footsteps of retailers John Lewis and Waitrose. Aldi will be closing its doors on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day this year. However, the stores will reopen on Friday, December 27, allowing customers to make last-minute purchases for their New Year celebrations. Throughout the holiday season, store hours may vary across different locations in the country. Some stores are expected to extend their opening hours to accommodate the festive shopping rush.

Richard Thornton, Communications Director at Aldi UK, stated, “Christmas is such a special period for many of our colleagues, and by keeping our stores closed on Boxing Day, Aldi gives them more time to spend with their loved ones.” In preparation for Christmas, Aldi will be stocking exciting Christmas ranges on shelves for customers to enjoy during the festive season. Aldi joins other stores like John Lewis and Waitrose in confirming closure on Boxing Day. While most John Lewis and Waitrose stores will be closed, some Waitrose outlets attached to petrol stations will remain open on Boxing Day. Additionally, a few John Lewis stores at Trafford and Stratford shopping centres will operate on the holiday.

The decision to close stores on Boxing Day is not uncommon, with supermarkets like Asda, Tesco, and Morrisons having made similar choices in the past. The move to keep stores shut or open for reduced hours on Boxing Day aims to give employees the opportunity to spend time with their families during the festive period. As the Christmas season approaches, customers can expect a range of festive products on offer across various supermarket chains, ensuring a merry and convenient shopping experience for all.
