A “barbaric” murderer who stabbed a man to death near a hospital car park is due to be sentenced today. The victim died from a single knife wound to the right side of his chest. Ashley Davies, 30, was convicted of the murder of Conall Evans, 30, who was found seriously injured near the Ysbyty Cwm Rhondda Hospital car park in Tonypandy in the early hours of New Year’s Day this year. He was later pronounced dead having suffered a stab wound.
Davies, of Forge Road, Pentre, is due to be sentenced at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court today. He will receive a term of life imprisonment but the minimum term will be set. Following the guilty verdict after a trial, senior investigating officer Dai Butt of South Wales Police said: “I hope today’s verdict gives Conall’s family some closure so they can now begin the difficult process of moving on from what has been a very traumatic time in their lives.
This case lays bare the devastating consequences of knife crime which are invariably far-reaching. The lives of everybody involved will never be the same again. Conall’s life was cut tragically short by the barbaric actions of Ashley Davies who now faces the prospect of spending a considerable time behind bars. The family of Mr Evans paid tribute to him at the time of his death, stating: “Conall was a very well-loved son, brother, and family member and he will be dearly missed.”
