The popular cafe, Haystack, has been announced as the sole Welsh finalist in the Uber Eats UK & Ireland Restaurant of the Year Awards. Specialising in brunch, lunch, and coffee, the cafe is situated in Brynhyfryd Square in Swansea and on High Street in Merthyr Tydfil. This recognition marks the second consecutive year that Haystack has been acknowledged for its excellence by Uber Eats, after being awarded the best in Wales last year.
Haystack has been a customer favourite since opening in May 2018, known for its diverse pancake menu and unique farmer’s breakfast served in a frying pan. The cafe’s growing reputation is evident with long queues often seen extending out of the door and down the street.
Out of 130 competing restaurants, only 12 have made it to the grand finale of the awards. The judging panel includes renowned figures such as chef Andi Oliver, street food expert Kieran Monlouis, and last year’s winner Josh Kleiner. The overall winner will be granted a £100,000 prize to invest in their business, with the awards ceremony set to take place in London on November 14.
In addition to the grand prize, Uber Eats is offering each finalist a £5,000 prize along with a support package to aid in their business growth. Matthew Price, the General Manager for UK, Ireland, and Northern Europe at Uber Eats, congratulated Haystack Cafe on being the Welsh finalist and highlighted the increasing quality of businesses participating in the awards.
With a focus on small and medium-sized businesses, Uber Eats aims to celebrate and support the finalists in their culinary accomplishments. As Haystack Cafe prepares for the awards ceremony, the community eagerly anticipates its potential triumph as the best restaurant in the UK.
