The Cardiff Half Marathon 2024 road closures have been confirmed by Cardiff Council in preparation for the upcoming event. Scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 6, an estimated 27,500 participants and numerous spectators will flock to Cardiff for Wales’ largest mass-participation event. Road closures will be in effect from Wednesday, October 2, until Monday, October 7, to enable event organisers to set up and remove the race village at the Civic Centre.
During the event on Sunday, from 8.30am to 3.10pm, the bus gate in Westgate Street will be suspended. College Road will be closed from the junction with Museum Avenue to the junction with King Edward VII Avenue starting at 5am on Wednesday, October 2, until just before midnight on Monday, October 7.
Additional closures will include King Edward VII Avenue, Museum Avenue, Gorsedd Gardens Road, City Hall Road, and more, with access for private parking and deliveries until 9am on Saturday, October 5. Emergency service access will be permitted from North Road during the event.
On the day of the event, further closures will be in effect from 4am to noon, such as North Road, Kingsway, Duke Street, Cowbridge Road East, and Cathedral Road. Rolling closures will also be established from 8.30am to 3.10pm, covering various routes accommodating the marathon through the Welsh capital.
To aid transportation, Transport for Wales will operate additional rail services from various locations to Cardiff to cater to the early start time of the event. The Principality Cardiff Half Marathon commences at 10am near Cardiff Castle, allowing runners to traverse the city’s iconic landmarks during the race.
