Consuming this hot drink twice a day will combat high cholesterol, doctor says

Dr El Mohandes, a certified nutritionist and integrated medical practitioner, has advised that consuming a specific hot beverage at least twice daily can be beneficial for individuals with high cholesterol. With a substantial following on TikTok, where he shares medical insights with his 262,000 followers, he highlighted the advantages of natural drinks for managing cholesterol levels. Explaining the benefits of green tea, he mentioned that catechins in green tea help lower LDL (bad cholesterol) by inhibiting cholesterol absorption in the intestines and increasing the activity of LDL receptors in the liver. Dr Mohandes recommended aiming for two to five cups per day for maximum benefits.

In response to queries from his audience, Dr Mohandes emphasized that incorporating green tea into a broader plan, including increased fibre intake, reducing sugar consumption, and increasing physical activity, is essential. Followers expressed appreciation for his advice, with one mentioning, “I appreciate all your knowledge,” while another stated, “Thank you, I drink it all the time.” Additionally, Dr Mohandes noted that decaffeinated green tea offers the same benefits as regular green tea.

The British Heart Foundation supported Dr Mohandes’ advice to a degree, citing a 2013 review of 11 studies indicating that regular consumption of green or black tea can help reduce cholesterol and blood pressure. The organisation highlighted that most trials in the review were short-term, underlining the need for longer-term studies. They also referenced a subsequent survey showing a slight decrease in blood pressure for individuals with high blood pressure who consumed green tea.

With growing interest in natural remedies for health issues, Dr El Mohandes’ recommendation of incorporating green tea into daily routines has resonated with many seeking to manage their cholesterol levels effectively. As research continues to explore the benefits of green tea, it remains a promising option for those looking to improve their heart health naturally.
