Members of Bridgend Council are considering the future of leisure services in the county borough. Halo Leisure has managed the leisure centres and swimming pools in the area on behalf of the council since 2012. With the current contract set to end in March 2027, a decision must now be made regarding the continuation of the services.
During a recent meeting, a report highlighted the successful partnership achievements, including excellent ratings for sport and leisure. The report suggested extending the current contract by five years, which was estimated to be more cost-effective than bringing the services back under the council’s control. The council will need to determine the future model for delivering Healthy Living Services and assess the affordability of services in the current challenging budget climate.
Deputy leader Jane Gebbie expressed support for extending the contract, citing the successful management of leisure facilities across the borough by Halo. Members of the committee indicated their backing for a short-term extension and agreed to discuss the service’s future further at an upcoming cabinet meeting in October.
