A train journey to the summit of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) was abruptly halted when the locomotive derailed. The Snowdon Mountain Railway service, which was carrying passengers from Llanberis station on Tuesday morning, encountered a problem at Clogwyn. An insider claimed to North Wales Live that the locomotive and carriage had not been properly attached, leading to them coming apart at the Clogwyn Loop and causing the derailment. Despite the incident, no injuries were reported and no damage was done to the train.
A spokesperson for the Snowdon Mountain Railway said: “A service travelling to the summit encountered a small technical issue yesterday (Tuesday). In line with company procedures, the journey was halted by the driver. There were no injuries or damage to the train and all passengers were returned to Llanberis station. A normal service will be resuming later today (Wednesday).” Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Rail Accident Investigation Branch stated: “The RAIB has been informed of a low-speed derailment of a locomotive on the Snowdon Mountain Railway. RAIB is making enquiries and a decision on whether or not an investigation will be launched will be taken in the coming days.”
The Snowdon Mountain Railway, which has been transporting passengers to the summit since 1896, takes thousands of passengers to the top of Wales’s highest peak each year, reports North Wales Live.
