Eden Lewis, a teenager from Caerphilly, has defied doctors’ expectations after being told she had months to live back in 2022. At just 15 years old, Eden was diagnosed with terminal cancer, specifically osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer with lung metastasis. Despite undergoing chemotherapy and surgery, multiple relapses ensued, leading to a heartbreaking prognosis in March 2022 that left her with only a few months left.
After bravely declining further treatment that would compromise her quality of life, Eden, now 18, has chosen to focus on spending time with loved ones and embracing her ‘f**k it! List’. Her resilience and courage in the face of adversity were recognised with the Child of Courage award at the Child of Wales Awards. Eden’s remarkable attitude towards life, coupled with her determination to live fully, has inspired many.
Having completed her GCSEs and pursuing her passion for animals through college, Eden remains tenacious in her pursuit of memorable experiences. Despite being faced with the harsh reality of her prognosis, she has chosen to create a bucket list of activities she wants to accomplish. From feeding big cats to trying pole dancing for strength, Eden is intent on making the most of her time while spreading joy to her younger siblings, who look up to her as a hero.
In addition to her bucket list, Eden has also planned her own funeral to reflect her personality – a mix of music, jokes, and quirks to ensure a day filled with laughter and smiles. While the family deals with the difficult circumstances with humour, the bittersweet task of funeral planning serves as a poignant reminder of the uncertain future ahead. Despite the challenges, Eden’s unwavering spirit and determination to make lasting memories for her siblings showcase her strength and selflessness.
