The video captured the chaos as heavy rain led to flooding in areas like Cardiff, Port Talbot, Swansea, and near Newport. Particularly affected was Swansea’s Mumbles Road at West Cross, where cars were seen navigating through the floodwaters.
In addition to the flooding in Swansea, areas like Whitchurch and Cathays in Cardiff also experienced significant water accumulation. The extreme weather led to a month’s worth of rain falling in just one day, with some areas receiving 87.2mm of rainfall. Residents described recurring flooding issues, with one local resident highlighting challenges due to short downpours overwhelming drainage systems.
The heavy rainfall caused road closures, flood alerts, and power outages, impacting communities in Port Talbot where residents reported water entering their homes. Sandbags were distributed to assist those affected, with warnings issued by Natural Resources Wales for various locations in Gower and the Vale of Glamorgan.
While the Met Office had issued yellow warnings for rain that have now ended, the forecast predicts continued unsettled weather with the possibility of thunderstorms. Parts of southern Britain are expected to experience further rainfall, while northern areas can look forward to warmer conditions.
