A 47-year-old driver is in the hospital with potentially life-changing injuries after a crash near Cardiff on Wednesday, October 2. South Wales Police responded to a collision on the M4 eastbound between J32 Coryton and J30 Cardiff Gate in the early hours of the morning. The incident involved a Mercedes goods vehicle and a Toyota MR2, with the Toyota driver being taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.
South Wales Police stated that emergency services were called to the road traffic collision at the eastbound carriageway of the M4 motorway before the off-slip at junction 30. The motorway was closed for several hours for vehicle recovery and investigations. The M4 was shut down for nearly five hours between J32 Coryton and J30 Cardiff Gate, leading to traffic disruptions in the area.
Although all lanes have since reopened, motorists were warned of slow traffic in the aftermath of the crash. The road was eventually reopened just after 6.30 am on Wednesday, with traffic flow returning to normal.
