The Albert Hall in Swansea has undergone a major transformation, with a restoration project costing nearly £9 million. The iconic four-storey venue now features a ground-floor food hall and bar, private entertainment spaces, offices, studios, visitor accommodation, a gym, and a rooftop garden. LoftCo Ltd, the company responsible for the project, held a soft launch event to showcase the new food hall, similar to Founders & Co on Wind Street.
Located on the fringe of the city centre, the Albert Hall aims to attract more visitors to socialize in the area. The historic building, originally opened in 1864, had fallen into disrepair after closing as a cinema and bingo hall in 2007. Thanks to a Welsh Government grant and planning permission from Swansea Council, LoftCo was able to transform the building into a modern multi-use space.
The new Albert Hall now houses various food outlets, with tenants like The Pizza Boyz and XO offering a range of culinary delights. The project also includes a bar operated by Academy Coffee Ltd and plans for a ground floor café. The venue, with a capacity for 450 people on the ground floor and 100 in private areas, aims to cater to families and early socializers.
The restoration process involved extensive renovation work, including the installation of a new roof and steel frame. The grand opening of the Albert Hall is scheduled for this Thursday, showcasing its revitalized interior and amenities. LoftCo Ltd director Simon Baston expressed optimism about the venue’s potential to become a bustling hub in Swansea’s social scene.
